Gallery Wall Ideas That Don't Look Like a Pinterest Cliché

·1 min read

A gallery wall can be one of the most personal touches in your home — or it can feel like a generic template. The difference is in the details.

Mix frame styles intentionally

Instead of matching frames perfectly, choose two or three finishes (e.g. light wood, black, and brass) and repeat them across the wall for cohesion without monotony.

Vary sizes, not just placement

A wall full of same-sized frames can feel flat. Mix small, medium and large pieces to create visual rhythm.

Include non-photo elements

Mirrors, woven wall hangings, small shelves with objects, or pressed botanicals add texture beyond flat frames.

Plan on the floor first

Lay your arrangement out on the floor before hanging anything, and use paper templates taped to the wall to test placement without extra nail holes.

Leave breathing room

Consistent spacing (around 5–8 cm between frames) keeps the wall feeling curated rather than cluttered.

Tell a story

Choose pieces that mean something to you — travel photos, kids' artwork, a print from a favorite trip. That's what makes a gallery wall feel like yours.
