A small bedroom can easily feel cramped if it's working against you instead of for you. A few changes can make a big difference.
Push the bed against the wall
Placing the bed against the longest wall, rather than floating it, frees up floor space for movement and other furniture.
Use the space under the bed
Bins, drawers or a bed frame with built-in storage make use of otherwise wasted space for off-season clothes or bedding.
Choose a light color palette
Soft, light tones on walls and bedding reflect more light and make the room feel larger and airier.
Mount a wall lamp instead of a bedside table lamp
Wall-mounted reading lights free up surface space on small bedside tables — or let you skip the table altogether.
Keep the floor clear
Avoid a bench, extra chair or floor baskets unless they're essential. A clear floor reads as more space than it actually is.
Add a full-length mirror
A mirror on the back of the door or leaning against the wall reflects light and visually doubles the sense of depth.
With the right layout, even a 9-square-meter bedroom can feel calm, organized and surprisingly spacious.
