How they work
A fold-down desk is mounted to the wall and hinges downward to create a flat work surface. When you're done, it folds back up flush against the wall, taking up just a few centimeters of depth.
Where to install one
- A hallway or entryway nook
- Inside a closet (a "cloffice")
- A corner of the bedroom or living room
- Above a radiator (with proper clearance)
Tips for making it functional
- Mount a power strip nearby so you're not running cables across the room
- Add a small shelf or pegboard above for supplies
- Choose a desk with a built-in cable management slot if you'll be using a laptop daily
Combine with a wall-mounted chair
Some fold-down desk systems include a chair that folds flat against the wall too, so the entire setup disappears when not in use.
